Notes: prominent in the King's service until his death, probably in the Holy Land, early in 1274/5 (Cal. Patent Rolls, 1272-81, p. 81; Cal. Fine Rolls, vol. i, p. 21). In 1266/7 the King granted to him and his heirs the manor of Ellesmere, until he should provide for them to the value of 100 l. a year in land (Cal. Patent Rolls, 1266-72, p. 39). BEF his death Hamon purported to enfeoff Roger in Ellesmere and Coolmere (Shropsh., vol. x, p. 197; Cal. Fine Rolls, vol. i, p. 21), but the validity of the feoffment was questioned after Hamon's death, and Roger obtained a fresh grant from the King for life (Cal. Patent Rolls, 1272-81, p. 125; 1307-13, pp. 156, 493). Hamon, who was Sheriff of Hants, was granted Chawton in that county in fee before 30 Dec 1271 (Cal. Charter Rolls, vol. ii, p. 178), and this may have invalidated the conditional grant of Ellesmere. Chawton passed to his brother Robert (Cal. Patent Rolls, 1272-81, p. 442; Cal. Close Rolls, 1272-79,
p. 203)."

In 1313, as an adherent of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, he was pardoned for his share in the death of Piers de Gaveston. In 1322 he was going overseas. In 1324 the sheriff of Lincoln was directed to pay to him and his wife the arrears of 1/3 of the county of Lincoln, described in a similar mandate in 1327 as the third penny of the county. On 19 Apr 1326 he was made a banneret. In Jul 1326 he was a supervisor of array for Lincs under the Earl of Arundel. On 3 Dec 1326 (20 Edw. II), he received notice, directed Ebuloni Lestrange, of the prorogation of Parl. from 14 Dec 1326 to 7 Jan 1326/7, whereby he is held to have become Lord Strange. He was so sum. until 5 Apr 1335. In 1327 and again in 1332/3 he was sum. to serve against the Scots. In 1330 he was directed to convey Queen Isabel from Berkhamsted to spend Christmas at Windsor. In 1331 he and his wife and his heirs were granted the custody and ward of the Castle of Lincoln with the bailey, and in 1332 he was app. a Keeper of the County and was in a commission. In 1334 he was going beyond seas. He married, before Nov 1324, as her 2nd husband, Alice De Lacy, Countess of Lincoln and Salisbury, widow of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster and Leicester, only surv. child of Henry De Lacy, Earl of Lincoln and hereditart Constable of Chester, by Margaret, only dau. and heir of Sir William Longspee. He died s.p., 8 Sep 1335 in Scotland. His estates passed to his nephew, Roger, Lord Strange of Knokyn. His widow married 3rdly, Hugh De Frene, Lord Frene. She died s.p. 2 Oct 1348.

III) to Parl. as Roger Lestrange. In 1340 and 1345 he was in commissions for Salop. In Aug 1347 he was staying at the war overseas. He married 1stly, Maud; and 2ndly, before 25 Mar. 1344, Joan, dau. and coheir (and eventually heir) of Oliver De Ingham, Lord Ingham. He died 29 Jul 1349 in the Manor of Sedgebrook, Lincs. On 16 Jul 1289 it was ordered that he should have his brother's lands, on condition of doing homage at the King's next coming to England. In 1294 he was going to Gascony. He was sum. repeatedly to do service against the Scots from Mar 1298 until Apr 1323. In 1299 he was going to Scotland on the King's service. In Feb 1300/1 his seal was appended to the Barons Letter to the Pope, as Fulco Lestraunge dominus de Corfham. On 4 Mar 1308/9 (2 Edw. II) he was sum. to Parl. by writ directed Fulconi Lestraunge whereby he is held to have become Lord Strange or Lestrange. He was similarly sum. until 26 Dec 1323. In 1309 and frequently thereafter he was in commissions. In 1312 he was an adherent of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster. In 1315, for good service in Gascony, he was pardoned certain debts due from his uncle Hamon in connection with Chawton, Hants. On 26 May 1322 he was app. Seneschal of Aquitaine. In 1322 he obtained a license to crenellate his dwelling-place of Whitechurch, Salop. He married Eleanor, daughter of John Giffard of Brimsfield, and sister and coheir of John Giffard. She died before him. He died on or before 23 Jan 1323/4.

In 1346 he accompanied the King to Normandy and was at Crecy and Calais. He married Ankaret, daughter of William Butler of Wem, Salop., and sister and coheir of Edward Butler. He died 21 Jul 1349. Ankaret survived him and apparantly married 2ndly, Sir Thomas De Ferrers. She died 8 Oct.
