Notes: In 1542-3, Richard Brereton of Tatton, knight wrote to the King, Henry VIII in the matter of Brereton v Brereton re Forcible Dispossession of the Plaintiff and Assault which was heard in the Court of Star Chamber, Richard complained that despite theking having already written to command Richard's wife Dame Jane Breretonto repair herself to her husband and she and her son Richard should not meddle with lands etc, not only had she absented herself and Richard her son from his company, she was also associating with eight or so diverse light persons, that assembled riotously with "swerdes, stavys, dagerz, and other weapons", they stole corn which was carried away by the servants and horses of one Thomas Valentyne, who wasn't just stealing Richard's corn, as he was also "maynteynes and comfortes, the said Jane is such unlawfull doinges contrary to all lawe, right and consyence". Jane was also harassing his workers and her son Richard, having the same evil disposition as his mother, beat a priest, and grievously wounded and beat his keeper. Jane and young Richard had disturbed the peace in the demesne lands of the manor of Worseley. Richard, who had "lately become blind by the sufferance of Almighty God", was referring to his own son Richard, when he said "her son".

Notes: his wife Margaret was 12 when her father died on 9 Sep 1513 in the Battle of Flodden. Fourteen years later Margaret was the widow of Sir John Stanley, the illegitimate son of James Stanley, Bishop of Ely.

Urian was one of Henry VIII's grooms of the privy chamber. Urian was made escheator and ranger of the Delamere forest for his lifetime after the death of Sir Ralph Egerton with 10l fee per annum on 1 Apr 1526.

After the burning of Edinburgh by the Earl of Hertford in 1544, fifty-eight officers were knighted at Leith, and of these nineteen were Cheshire men. Among them; Urian Brereton, William Brereton, Roger Brereton.
